Video Of The Day: Iverson Crosses Jordan

A.I. gets MJ to dance in this throwback clip from 1997.

Don't Call It A Comeback

Actually you can't call it a comeback because the new Sixers guard, well "re-new" guard Allen Iverson really never went anywhere. AI was released from the Memphis Grizzlies after a few games and family problems. Then a couple days later retired; only to come out of retirement when new of 3 teams were interested.

When Iverson got released from the Grizzlies news broke out that the Knicks, Heat and then late, his old home the 76ers became interested. After a big speculation/let down by the Knicks and no word from the heat, it seemed as if his old home became his only hope. Luckily the struggling 76ers inked a deal with this once praised superstar.

Iverson came in the league in 1996 as an undersized guard but a scoring threat. He was already popular for being small but electrifying on the court with his scoring abilities and killer crossover. The very same crossover that made him a house hold name after he used it to make the great MJ dance. While playing for the 76ers he became a MVP, multiple scoring Champion and even taking the 76ers to the NBA finals.

A few years later everyone watched Iverson's days as a sixer come to an end. With the drafting of Arizona swingman Andre Iguodala and the production of A.I. coming to a slow hault not to mention the fact 76ers hadn't been as good as they once were. This meant changes had to be made and one of the crucial ones was to get the once prominent A.I out and build around the new A.I (Andre Iguodala). Neither have seemed to work yet. So now Philly trades Iverson to the Denve Nuggets for Andre Miller (What a great trade right?).

While at Denver AI lost his usual touches to superstar Carmelo Anthony and also sharp shooter J.R. Smith. However he wasn't terrible he just didn't fit in because he wasn't used to taking the back seat to anybody. His PPG (points per game) dropped a little nothing major he still added 20+ PPG.The backseat problem stuck with him when he was traded to the Detroit Pistons for Chauncey Billups.

While in Detroit he was forced to take the backseat to Richard Hamilton and Rodney Stuckey. His numbers in turn dropped again this time it was the first season Iverson didn't put up at least 20 PPG. He only played 54 games for the pistons before injuring his back and bring deactivated. Joe Dumars told the media it was because the injury that AI was deactivated. Many others believe a statement Iverson made about he'd rather retire than sit the bench caused the deactivation.

Now "the answer" is yet again without a team the question is; who will pick him up this time? The Memphis Grizzlies answered his prayers and decide to give him a chance after just three games with the team Iverson left due to family problems, soon after he announced he was retiring. This was an all out low point in Allen Iverson's career.

Now back in the sixer uniform Iverson is now back in the position he was just 3 years ago. Starting point guard; however, this time he's not the star, scorer, or the only AI. Also the team is just like he left it. So now it's up to both AI's to get this team back on track and to help the 76ers compete in the East.

So how will this work if didn't work before? Great question one only "the answer" himself can answer by playing team ball and sitting the bench if need be. So far in his first two starts agaisnt former teams Nuggets and Pistons he's done average. He is not putting up his usual and even passed up a potential game winning shot against former team Detroit Pistons. Allen Iverson has put up only 22 points, 10 assist and 7 turnovers in his first two games he's going to have to do much better if he plans to get back to the playoffs.

Tyrus Headed Up North???

Rumors have been floating around the league about trade talks between the Knicks and Bulls. The Bulls are placing Power Foward Tyrus Thomas on the table for Al Harrington. Will the trade go through who knows? It would help the Bulls offensive game alot. Give them an able big body to help out Joakim Noah and Brad Miller in the paint

Wild Wild Wes'

Syracuse has probably had the best start of the season compared to any team in the nation. Three weeks of play has gone by since Syracuse started the season ranked 24 and has pole vaulted into the top 10 at number 7. With that said some of the Orangemen success wouldn't be possible without the big performances by their front court and new weapon Wesley Johnson. Wes Johnson has been tremendous for the orange so far. Most people would've counted 'cuse out of any type of contention in the Big East and definitely wouldn't have them in any top 10 poll. Everyone predicted them to be done with nobody to lead the team. Especially since sensational freshman point guard Johnny Flynn left for the pros.

On the contrary Wesley Johnson the newcomer proved he could strap Syracuse on his back and launch this team to the top. Most have never heard of him; I hadn't heard of him until I watched him on ESPN play in Madison Square Garden. He helped Jim Boeheim's team to two great wins over Cal and The defending NCAA champs North Carolina.

A little background information before we get into just how good he really is. He's from a place many probably can't pronounce Corsicana, Texas. A junior but hasn't always played for Syracuse, he had to sit last year out after transferring from Iowa State.

He was successful in his 2 years at Iowa State; averaging 12 ppg and 7 rpg. In his freshman season Johnson set the school record for blocks with 33. He was named to the Big 12 all rookie team. In his Sophomore year his stats stayed about the same.Wes' scoring stayed consistent averaging 12 ppg. However, his rebounding average dropped to 4 rpg due to an ankle injury. This sat him on the bench for most of the season. Despite that he put up at least 20 against big schools like Kansas, Kansas St. and Oklahoma St. Although the injury sidelined Johnson for a majority season he still made Honorable Mention for All Big 12 team.

Fast forward to this year nothing has changed but the numbers in the stat line. This season has proved to be Wesley Johnson's best one yet. He started off the season with 12 points 8 Rebs and 6 steals against Albany in the season opener. If you haven't watched or heard of this guy lately you've been sleeping on a potential player of the year candidate. Since the start of the season Wes has just gotten better and better. Just recently in the 2k Classic at MSG he was named MVP of the tournament averaging 20+ ppg and 9 rebounds. During his championship run he put up 17 points and 11 rebounds against Cal. Then the next game scored 25 points and 8 rebounds against UNC.

He just annihilates defenses. Johnson is big and finesse, oh he can knock the tre ball down. Reminds me of a freshman back in '03 who led the Orange to an NCAA Championship, Carmelo Anthony. Nobody knows yet if he's gonna take 'cuse back to the college basketball promise land but from the looks of it he's got this team headed in the right direction.

Man On Fire

Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Dwight, CP3, Garnett. All these named have been mentioned in the race for MVP in the past few years. Some more circulated than others (Hint: the ones I mentioned twice); however, one superstar who has been kept in the dark. Since losing the rookie race to his fellow "Redeem Team" teammate Lebron, Carmelo Anthony hasn't been mentioned in well anything regarding himself. Last season Melo help push his team to the western conference finals only to be re-routed back to Denver by Kobe Bryant and Lakers. Before the season Melo was apart of the team USA gold medal basketball team.

So after winning Gold and getting to the western conference checked off on the mental checklist of Melo, there could only be two things he hasn't done yet win MVP and Win a NBA Championship. In the offseason before the start of this season Melo's athletic trainer said in an interview with ESPN "His effort level and commitment were extraordinary". In the interview his trainer also says he's doing things differently that are contributing to the teams success. These include improving efficiency, slimming down, polishing his offensive game and commiting defensively.

With that said it's no wonder Carmelo is off to a great start. Right now he's leading the league in scoring averaging 31 points per game. Not to mention eight 30 point games, back to back 40+ games and recently dropping a career high 50 points on the Knicks. He's also shooting better than ever before in his NBA career. However he's going to have to do more than shoot his way out of the wild wild west. He must also play defense and help his teammates have the same drive for the gold that he seeks.

Melo achievements include leading the Syracuse Orange to the 2003 NCAA championship and was named MOP (Most Outstanding Player) of the Tournament, as well as the consensus NCAA freshman of the year. In the NBA he's been a 3 time All NBA selection, 2 time All Star, and not to mention two gold medals with the new "Redeem Team". Seems like the only thing left to do is get a NBA Championship and get some other hardware on the way to the top, and hopefully come from behind the shadow of LeBron and Wade that seems to cover up his achievements every season except this one...so far.

Which Frosh Are Feasting so Far?

Now that the start of the season is under way and the freshman have made their respective debuts. I decided to highlight some of the freshman who are already off to good start. Some of the super frosh have been eating appetizers preparing for thanksgiving. Here are those to be on the look out for during their journey to the NCAA tourney and on to the pros.

In the starting lineup we have from Georgia Tech F #14 Derrick Favors who averages 13 ppg & 7 rpg. So far he's been snagging rebounds left and right he's almost got a even split in the offensive/defensive rebound category. Look for him to possibly be a one and done like the rest of the names on this list.

Next up 6'4 G #11 John Wall who ended up at UK just in case you've been under rock n just crawled out. He's had probably one of the best starts next to fellow super frosh Xavier Henry. This young gun has busted out the gate and proved he's a thoroughbred averaging 19 ppg, 6 apg, & 4 rpg.

Starting at the forward position is Kansas Jayhawk upcoming superstar #1 Xavier Henry. The 6'6 220lbs guard presents a mismatch everytime he steps on the court. He boasts a stat line of 17 ppg, 4 rpg, while shooting 54% from the field, 92% from the free throw and 55% from beyond the arc. He came out shooting in his first game dropping 27 pts & 5 rebs.

Coming in at the Power Forward position is Kentucky's other super frosh DeMarcus Cousins. He and Wall prove to everyone every night why UK had the best recruiting class. After getting tough lecture by Calipari in the first game against Morehead St. Cousins has been dominating inside. "Big Cuz" as the announcers in Rupp arena call him puts up 14 ppg, 8 rpg & almost 3 blks per night. His breakout game came against Sam Houston when he dropped 27 pts & 18 rebs against the bearkats.

Last but certainly not least is Mr. "Born Ready" Lance Stephenson. He ended up in the "Nasty Nati" playing for the Bearcats. He hasn't had the best start but he has been given the green light in Cincy. Watching him play you'll notice no shot is a bad shot to him. He averages 11.4 ppg, & 4.4 rebs which isn't great but good enough but as he adjusts I'm sure those numbers will rise. After all he's a 6'5 210lb guard who can create his own shot.

Keep in mind these are just the freshman who's stat line are standing out right now. Because there are some frosh who were not mentioned but contribute to their teams success. Players like Avery Bradley (Texas), Peyton Siva (Louisville), Abdul Gaddy (Washington), and Eric Bledsoe (Kentucky).

Today Was A Good Day!!!

"I woke up early on my born day, I'm twenty years of blessing
The essence of adolescent leaves my body now I'm fresh in
My physical frame is celebrated cause I made it One quarter through life some God-ly like thing created"---words to life's a b**** by Nas. When I woke up this morning, that was the first thing that popped into my mind. This was probably one of the best birthdays to date. I copped the new Air Jordan retro 12's early in the morning around 11 am n for the rest of the day just let the wind take me on a journey. Blew through the mall, the barbershop, visited with friends and then stopped by my house for a traditional birthday. After the celebration was over went out with the friends and bowled. Ended the night with a good night kiss for my girlfriend and wishing her a happy birthday seeing as when I dropped her off it was past 12 o'clock and she had turned a year older as well.

Highflying Hawk: Bibby Oop to Josh Smith

Hawks at The Top of Food Chain...

Who would've thought the dirty birds of Atlanta would be doing this good in the league. Those who don't follow the NBA I'm talking about the Hawks not the Falcons. Seems like the tables have turned the Hawks are becoming the new talk of the town in ATL. The Hawks are currently perched at the top of the East and Tied for the best record in the league with the Phoenix Suns. They have a impressive 10-2 record and are flawless at home currently 6-0 in the Phillips Arena after defeating D. Wade's Heat tonight. Flash to just 15 breaking his streak of 20 point games. Joe Johnson led all scorers with 30 points in the 105-90 victory. For the first time since I've been born that the Hawks are numero uno, #1, top team, head honcho, however you say number one the Hawks are it!

I know this is shocking to everyone that the hawks are even top 3 being in the same conference with the 2008 Champion Celtics and 2009 Eastern Conference final teams Cavaliers and Magic. Coming into the season I would've never put them in my top 3. It seems like when deciding the best in the eastern conference the Hawks aren't even in the discussion. Which is probably because they have 0 superstars and possibly 2 guys who are arguably All-Stars. Another reason why is because the Hawks have to face off against three teams that have eight superstars total and they only keep adding more. So how could the Hawks rise? Which is a great question that puzzles me to this day. So far though they are 5-1 against the top 10 teams in the League, which include an 11 point victory over the Celtics and a complete blowout of the #5 (espn) Nuggets. Their only lost and one of the two losses have come to the defending NBA champion Lakers.

Only thing to do now is for them to continue to play this good through the all-star break, and head into the playoffs stronger and better than ever. Which means don't let up at any part of the season and slip back to being a 7 or 8 seed in the playoffs.

Wildcats Exposed as Winbush leads The Ambush by Redhawks

Rupp arena is one of the most known arenas in all of basketball. I dont think that building was ready for the attack that Miami of Ohio brought out in the first half of play tonight. Leading the attack was #20 Nick Winbush. The 6-7 junior went 9-13 from the floor scoring 26 pts. Winbush shot 8-10 from three setting a record for most three pointers made in rupp arena by an opponent. As a team Miami (OH) set the new record for three pointers by an opposing team shooting 15-26. Just the game before the Wildcats held Morehead State to just 4-24 from behind the arc and won by 16. This could be a sign that maybe UK lives and dies by the three. If it weren't for Darnell Dodson hitting those three pointers in the first half to help the cats rally back, the game might have been out of reach.

The cats wouldn't have had to battle back if it wasn't for a thorn in their side from the deadly Winbush. He added fuel to the fire of a 13-0 run and with his rain of tre' balls blazed the cats for nine points and a 22-2 run. As mush as Miami (OH) fans would love for this to have a fairy tale ending sadly it didn't. Although there was a bit if drama in between. There were questionable calls, fouls and even some blood. What more could u ask for it had all the making of an upset except the top recruit in the nation. John Wall making his debut in his first game back from suspension had 19 points 5 assist and 3 steals. But the play of the night was when Wall pushed the ball down the court with about four ticks left on the game clock and put up a great shot. He admits he was nervous about the shot up until it sank through the bottom of the net with 0.5 seconds left giving the Wildcats the win. The shot came right after a game tying three by Miami's Kenny Hayes knotted the game up at 70.

It may not have ended like the Redhawks wanted but they proved they weren't weak. They played with alot of heart which carried them throughout the game. Nick Winbush was high point man leading everyone with 26 points. Hopefully UK will go back to the drawing boards and come up with a better defensive strategy. Playing like they been for the past two games won't get them anywhere in the NCAA tourney.

Highlights of Jennings' 55 point Performance

Soul on Ice 2.0 (The Second Coming)

By now if u haven't heard of Brandon Jennings you've been living under a rock!. Plain and simple the young man got skills, but is constantly hated on by many. Just a little background info on the man... In high school he averaged 32 pts 7 asst 5 rebs; however, he's forced to play overseas due to academic reasons which prohibited jennings from going to Arizona University, overseas he plays for Lomottica Roma (you've prolly never heard of it) gets limited playing time and has a mediocre career but was still considered a lottery pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. June 2009 comes around and Jennings lands a spot on the Milwaukee Bucks 10th overall, not the best team in the world but a team where he can shine (well after Michael Redd gets his shine first). If I had to compare Brandon Jennings to any player in the NBA, it would definately be Mr. "Soul on Ice" himself Allen Iverson. He's got the handles, the different hairstyles, the attitude all the way down to the tattoos. Only thing he's missing is the shoe deal. Other than that he almosts mirrors AI.I'm just waiting to watch him catch Kobe slipping like Iverson did Jordan.

Before the season even started Jennings was making noise... Literally... Just as the draft was finished Jennings made it public he was upset about the Knicks passing on him for Jordan Hill (what a great choice). In a heated conversation with rapper Joe Budden, Jennings said "F*** the Knicks". That wasn't the only thing Jennings and Budden argued about. They also discussed Jennings views on Ricky Rubio in which Budden says Jennings hates on Rubio. Fast forward through a dead period of Jennings keeping his mouth shut. Now were entering the season and some people have him getting the Rookie of the Year trophy, some having him falling to just role player status. Jennings has other things in mind, like showing everyone why he was the top recruit in the nation just a year ago.

Jennings entered the season with a chip on his shoulder to prove he was the best PG in the draft. First couple games of the season were great but still went unnoticed. How do you not notice a rookie just shy of a triple double in his debut dropping 17 pts 9 asst 9 rebs. Well he wouldn't go unnoticed for too much longer when on November 11th he strapped the bucks in on his back as he dropped 32 points. 6 of the 32 came in the last 21 secs as he hit 6 clutch free throws to secure the win for the Bucks. Which brings us to today when I thought he would only decline from being on top. Then he proves there's no celings to his game with tonight performance of 55 pts shooting 7-8 from the arc, and 21-34 from the floor which is just a little bit over 60 percent if you don't have calculator near or if your phones dead.

If you didn't know the original article about Allen Iverson was done by slam was called "Soul on Ice" and it's where I got my inspiration from. I can honestly say I think we know who will be in the top 3 for the ROY trophy at the end of the season.

The Razorbacks come out Firing!!

Before last night I had never and prolly wouldn't have heard of Rotnei Clarke, Sophomore guard at Arkansas University. Last night while most of you were possibly watching the WVU/Cincy game, Clarke was lighting up the scoreboards. Shooting 15-21 from the field 17 of those shots were 3 pointers in which Clarke rained 13 of the 17 all over Alcorn St.

Clarke scored 51 points total shooting 76% from three point land & hitting 8-9 Free Throws. To add to that he also broke the SEC record for 3 pointers and also the school record for points previously held by Martin Terry (47). Clarke's 9 three pointers in the first half helped the Razorbacks go up 71-26. The final score was 130-68 it's safe to say the five suspended players were not missed Friday night.

Video Of The Week!: Dwyane Wade Dunk On Varejao

I was on YouTube watching this and was just amazed so here it is...Dwayne Wade driving past some Cavs to put Anderson Verajao on a Poster coming soon!!

The New "Wild" Cats

Last night in Rupp Arena was the season opener for the Kentucky Wildcats. With John Wall benched serving a suspension they faced off against Morehead State led by Kenneth Faried. Despite the score if you watched the game then you know that wasn't a very clean win. UK had 24 turnovers, 3 of them came in the final minute of the first half. ESPN analyst Andy Katz tweets "Kentucky showing its youthful side with too many turnovers. But this is a different team without John Wall, trust me on that one." Made me wonder is that an excuse for 24 turnovers? Because i seen wild passes, silly calls, oh and some Air Balls.

Nonetheless the wildcats came out victorious with big performances from All-American Forward Patrick Patterson who's stat line was 20 pts 12 reb on 9-12 shooting. The player of the game award goes to Star Freshman Guard Eric Bledsoe who had one of the best nights among NCAA players last night. He dropped 24 pts 4 ast 7reb and 2 nice blocks. He also amazed the crowd with a crazy acrobatic lay-up that landed on ESPN top plays. Give Morehead State soem credit tho Kenneth Faried who should go to the pro's proved to be a challenge for Kentucky's big men he had a good night putting up 17 pts along with 7 reb & 2 blks he also caught an amazing allyoop landing him a spot on ESPN top plays as well.

Monday night the cats go head to head with Miami(OH) in Rupp Arena, where they will have their amazing Frosh John Wall Back. Morehead St. will play against Brescia Bearcats.
